Newbury & Crookham Golf Club is best characterised as a perfect blend of the old and the new. The Club is proud of its long history and traditions, but has modern facilities, a progressive attitude and an exceptional golf course. It is a great place to become a member, or simply to enjoy an excellent day out in beautiful surroundings.

The club was established from the merger of the Crookham Club, formed in 1873, and the Newbury District Club formed in 1923. Legendary golfers such as JH Taylor, James Braid and Henry Cotton played at the club in its early years and the oldest stroke play cup in England is still being contested. With this rich history the club has a just claim to be 'The original home of golf in Berkshire'.

A private members' club, the course is a hidden gem, winding its way down from Crookham Common through glorious Berkshire heathland, woodland and parkland to the Kennet valley. In excellent condition all year round, members and visitors alike agree that it plays longer than the par 69 suggests. Modernised in recent years by renowned course architect, Howard Swan, every hole presents a different challenge, with a premium placed on accuracy from the tee and a sure touch on and around the quick, undulating greens. The course has many fantastic golf holes, from the risk and reward short par four 2nd, to one of the toughest par 4's in Berkshire, the uphill dogleg left 8th. All of the par 3's represent a different challenge with the downhill 3rd perhaps being the most dramatic. The course has an exceptionally strong finish, meaning a good round can easily be ruined over the last five holes, known as 'The Park'.

The club has also invested heavily for the future, examples being a state of the art irrigation system and internal practice and teaching facilities. Our highly trained course staff utilise the highest quality machinery to maintain the course in superb condition, including hand cutting the greens in the main playing season.

After enjoying a round, our welcoming clubhouse awaits with our friendly staff ready to cater for your entire bar and catering needs. Light snacks to a full menu, real ales to excellent wines - the choice is yours.
